Inas Al Degheidy is one of only three Egyptian women known as Movie directors; there are only a handful more in the Arab world as a whole. She¹s been variously dubbed Egypt¹s "director of sex," the "feminist director," and, in whispers of course, even more sensational things. She has been pilloried in the Arab media, but that didn¹t stop her being given a place this year on the judging committee of the 23rd Cairo International Movie Festival, which ended 7 December. It's all very painful to be pigeon-holed in this way, she protests. She¹s not happy at the "feminist director" label, she says. And as for the "overlord of celluloid sex" charge: "It's hurtful. This is defamation of an artist's reputation."
